Neurophysics
Below is a list of experimental labs and theoretical groups that study the properties of neurons.
Laio Lab – Deciphering how neurons form using quantitative biological approaches
Research in the Liao laboratory combines single-molecule imaging, genetic manipulation, whole-cell super-resolution microscopy, machine learning, and physical modeling to understand how neuron structures and functions emerge from the elementary molecular processes, under both normal development and pathological stresses.
Stepanyants Group – Computational methods for mapping the brain
Research in the Neurogeometry Lab is aimed at understanding the basic brain functions and principles of synaptic connectivity in the cerebral cortex through the quantitative analysis of neuron morphology. Ongoing projects range from theoretical and computational studies of learning and memory in real and artificial neural networks to the analyses of structural connectivity diagrams built from experimental datasets of reconstructed neurons to the development of algorithms for automated tracing of neurites from 3D light microscopy images.
Venkatachalam Lab – Developing tools to study whole-brain activity and behavior
Professor Venkatachalam’s group develops tools to understand how whole-brain activity in worms (C. elegans) relates to rich sensory environments and complex behavior. To accomplish this, they develop and use techniques from physics, biology, and engineering.
